Parents Role
Talk with your child
It might be that when you first talk with your child about bullying, he may not be ready to open up right away as you want them to. As they are dealing with the emotional effects of bullying and may be feeling insecure, frightened, vulnerable, angry or maybe even sad. Make sure to be prepared to listen without any judgement, and provide a safe and supportive place where your child can workout his feelings.
Make sure your child knows:
-
It is NOT their fault. They are not to blame.
-
They are NOT alone. You are here to help.
-
It is the adults’ responsibility make the bullying stop.
-
Bullying is never okay and they have the right to be safe.
-
No one deserves to be bullied.
-
They deserve to be treated with respect.
-
They have the right to feel safe at school.

Controlling emotions
It is very important to understand that while your child is spilling out their problems and talking to you about how people bully him/her make sure to control your emotions. Crying may make the child feel insecure and he/she might feel that the parents have given up.
Confronting the parents
There might be times where you will have to not talk to the children parents that bully as your child might restrict you too. Make sure you do not go to the parents as your child will not want to share anymore things with you if his/hers trust is broken.

Get involved in the community.
Bullying touches many lives and it might be happening to others in your child’s school or community. You can help by raising awareness through community events, attending workshops or trainings in your community, or sharing information with others.
